4 Reasons To Love The Bali Hot Springs At Toya Devasya

November 29, 2019

This past year of travel has taught me the importance of taking time for relaxation and pampering. It could be something simple like doing a chill out day. Or it could be something like what we did last month: spending an afternoon at some Bali hot springs.

Our time in Bali recently was pretty packed! Whether it was snorkeling in Amed or doing a Bali eco stay in Padang Bai, we tried to enjoy as much as we could about this Indonesian island.

When we partnered with Bali Adventours last month to visit a Bali night market, we also had a chance to spend an afternoon at Toya Devasya hot springs near Mount Batur. Spending a few hours at Toya Devasya was the perfect way to unwind after a busy few weeks of activities.

Visiting Bali hot springs

Most visitors to Bali come for the beaches and temples. But did you know there are some great Bali hot springs to visit too?

Bali’s many volcanoes are surrounded by hot springs that are perfect for families to enjoy. In the past, they were mainly public spots that only locals frequented.  But over the years, hot springs resorts have popped up, allowing travelers an opportunity to enjoy the health benefits of the Bali hot springs while also taking advantage of amenities like restaurants and villas.

During our time with Bali Adventours, we visited Toya Devasya, a Bali hot springs resort located right on Lake Batur. The lake is at the base of one of Bali’s volcanoes, Mount Batur in the northeastern part of the island. The water that flows through the Toya Devasya hot springs comes from this volcano.

How to get to Toya Devasya hot springs

Toya Devasya is open all year round. Entrance for the day is Rp. 300,000 (roughly $21 USD) for adults and Rp. 200,000 (roughly $14 USD) for kids. This gives you access to all the pools at the resort. If you want a buffet lunch or dinner included in your visit, it’s an additional Rp. 100,000 (roughly $7). There are also restaurants and snack bars at the resort, so you have several different options for food at the resort.

While Toya Devasy is accessible by scooter if you're nearby, the best way to get to these Bali hot springs is to rent a car. You can either rent a driver to visit Toya Devasya, or you can try your luck at driving along Bali’s notoriously narrow roads on your own.

From Ubud, the drive will take about an hour. To rent a driver for the day, you can expect to pay between Rp. 500,000-600,000 (roughly $35-42 USD). The Bali, Lombok, and Nusa Tenggara guide book from Lonely Planet has more information on getting around Bali.

What families will love about Toya Devasya

We’ve visited hot springs before during our travels, like the Kalambu Hot Springs in Costa Rica, and what we enjoy the most out of those experiences is the chance to relax and unwind as a family. Toya Devasya hot springs was no different.

We’re pretty sure other families will enjoy Toya Devasya too. From the gorgeous location to the luxurious pools, there are just so many reasons why these Bali hot springs make the perfect day trip for families. Here are our top four reasons why we think families will love Toya Devasya.

1. An idyllic setting

As soon as we walked into the Bali hot springs resort, we were blown away by the setting. Toya Devasya has three infinity pools that overlook Lake Batur, with Mount Batur in the background. Having the view of the lake and volcano while swimming in warm hot springs feels like being in paradise. And with the grounds well-kept and well-maintained, we really felt like we were being pampered!

2. More than just Bali hot springs

Toya Devasya offers more than just a Bali hot springs experience. There are water activities that families can do on the lake for an additional cost, such as kayaking and riding a banana boat. Families can also indulge in a spa experience. And for those wanting to extend their day trip, families can book upscale villas or go basic with glamping tents.

3. Worth the splurge

In my opinion, spending the day at the Toya Devasya hot springs is worth the splurge.  The water in the pools are warm enough to feel soothing, but not too hot. For an afternoon, we felt pampered and content. We splashed and played in the hot springs, we ate delicious food at the restaurant, and we had a chance to connect with each other in a relaxing environment. We couldn’t have asked for a better family outing!

4. An opportunity to bond

The wonderful thing about visiting hot springs with your kids is that it gives you an opportunity to spend quality time with them. The relaxed pace of Toya Devasya lends itself to lounging with your kids and bonding with them. During our afternoon at the Bali hot springs, we took some time to talk about our family goals and assess what really makes our family happy.
